about the artist
Carrie Goldman Segall is the founder of Artwork By Carrie, based in Evanston, Illinois.
Carrie began oil painting at the age of
fourteen, taking private lessons from artists in her hometown of Tampa, Florida. As an adult, she has studied painting and drawing at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art in Chicago.
Carrie received her B.S. from Northwestern University and her M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management. She was a banker with Bank One, now JP Morgan Chase, from 1998 to 2004, and, prior to that, a stockbroker with H&R Block.
Carrie and her husband Andrew adopted a baby girl in 2003. The life-changing process of adopting served as the catalyst for Carrie’s transition to a full time career in art. Through her artwork, Carrie expresses her emotions about the beauty, sadness and joy unexpectedly found in life. In addition to painting, Carrie is writing a book about domestic adoption.
In 2008, Carrie will be exhibiting in the following Chicago-area art shows:
Deerfield Festival of Fine Art, Deerfield, IL
Evanston Fountain Square Art Show, Evanston, IL
Chicago Tribune Mag Mile Art Show, Chicago, IL
Gold Coast Art Fair, Chicago, IL
Lakeview East Fine Art Fair, Chicago, IL
One of A Kind Show and Sale Chicago Chicago, IL

artists' statement
I am primarily a realist painter, with a focus on landscapes including cityscapes and rural country scenes. In recent years I have also developed a reputation for my captivating renditions of the city of Chicago.
In addition to landscapes, I enjoy painting vibrant still lifes and luminous portraits. My medium is usually oil on canvas, with a smaller proportion of work in opaque watercolors on watercolor paper and soft pastels on paper.
I am a colorist and enjoy experimenting with a wide range of pigments on my palette.
