about the artist
Although I have degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and an Masters MA in Multi-cultural/cross-cultural Education (linguistics,education and history) from San Jose State University and credentials that certify me to do this and that. I still consider myself self taught.(and retired)
My main and most important teachers were my parents. They slaved in the heat of the San Joaquin Valley as farm workers. Inspite of what others may have called poverty, we never lacked the art, music or the daily celebration of fresh and delicious food. Our small church community provided us with "Posadas" and a chance to perform in the arts and develope our leadership qualities. Our joys were not material ones but were the celebration of daily living.
There were some downsides because pestisides and contaminantes have their way of distroying or damaging DNA in humans. So our environment experiences have caused family premature deaths.
All these experiences have prepared me to do my work in service for others. I counsel surviors of Cancer,homeless women in BSE and breast health and nutrition and translate for Doctors that may want to reach people without health insurance. I also provide the families with books and teach parents to be the first and most important teacher's in the children's lives. Today as an older person I do more then I ever did as a teacher or a teacher trainer.
