People of the Chinese Tai ethnicity are known for their performance arts, such as singing, dancing, and instrumental performance. This painting portrays a group of Tai musicians whose performance seems to have an effect on the birds in the air around them and even the grass at their bare feet.

We are a family-operated business. My name is Chip. I’m the guy in the picture wearing the black sweater. I’m a citizen of the United States of America, and I’ve lived and worked in China for six years. Next to me is my wife Xiao Hong (also known as Scarlet to English speakers.) Next to Scarlet is our son Ming, and on my lap is our daughter Mei.
Scarlet and I run the www.lacquerandoil.com business together. We do not own a sweatshop filled with underpaid workers applying oil paint over photographs printed on canvas. We commission local professional artists with years of experience to produce your portraits by hand in their own homes and studios.
