05/07/2008 - Andy Warhol's Portrait of Mao
Andy Warhol's 14-foot hight "Mao" painting has been shipped to Hong Kong to be displayed in the city's convention center so that it may be viewed by potential buyers. An anonymous European seller plans to sell the silkscreen-on-canvas work in a private sale for an estimated $120 million. It is Warhol's only painting of Mao that is currently owned privately; the others are owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Neither has ever been exhibited in Asia.
Warhol's most expensive work to date was "Green Car Crash" which sold for $71.7 million a year ago
